working in the life sciences industry
Currently, there are a lot of jobs in the Life Sciences sector and there are many opportunities not only in the academic sector, but also in the business field.
In each Vespucci issue, we will highlight someone working in the Life Science industry. This time, we speak with Jessica Pater who works for Syncom.
How long do you work for Syncom?
“I was familiar with the name of Syncom while I was at university and I work there since 2004.”
What is your job at Syncom?
J.P.: “At the moment I am working as a team member on a project for a US client for which we synthesize organic compounds.”
What do you like the most about it?
J.P.: “We have 1200 research projects per year which means that everyone here on average works on ten different projects. This gives pressure but at the same time stimulates us to keep our passion for our profession. I also like to work with international clients.”
What inspires you at your work?
J.P.: “Sometimes the projects look simple at first sight but often you come across complications that help you to learn a lot within a short period of time.”
What are your future plans?
J.P.: “I really want to work as a Team manager and coach a small team of chemists. In order to achieve this, I am following a Master course in the University of Groningen.”
Syncom is a contract research company active in all aspects of organic synthesis. Syncome focuses primarily on the pharmaceutical industry although they are also active in organic materials and work for the electronics and photo industries.
